Up to 114 houses were demolished in Barangay Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City morning on Monday, July 28, 2025, following a writ of demolition issued by a court.
The court’s decision favored the Alvarez family who claimed ownership of the more than 26,000 square meters property.
Residents were seen saving their belongings as members of the demolition team tore down their homes.
One of the residents affected, Justiniano Luke Embacan, said they did not expect that their house, which was renovated just recently, would be included.
“Actually, last week pa nakaplano na akong ginikanan nga ang lola nako ibalhin na og puyo… wala pud mi nag-expect nga maapil diri kay ang giingon, didto ra sa atubangan, dili pa maapil diri,” Embacan said
Prior to the operation, residents were reportedly given demolition notices several times.
Residents were also given four days to vacate or dismantle their homes voluntarily before the demolition began.
The barangay is profiling the households affected to determine their needs and how the barangay can help them.
