The local government of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental has prohibited the use of single-use plastic within its premises, offices, and activities.
This policy is stipulated in the executive order penned by Mayor Jason John Joyce on July 1, 2025.
The order aims to strengthen environmental protection, reduce plastic pollution, and promote sustainable practices among all LGU employees and offices.
Under the order, bringing and use of plastic bottled water or soft drinks in plastic containers, plastic cups, utensils, straws, bags, stirrers, and plastic food containers within the LGU premises, seminars, trainings, meetings, and other events is prohibited.
All employees and officials are required to bring and use their own reusable water flasks, tumblers, food containers, and utensils during working hours and official LGU activities.
“Caterers and suppliers for government functions are likewise encouraged to provide reusable or eco-friendly alternatives in compliance with this order,” the order said.
The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO has been directed to lead the enforcement and monitoring.
“Non-compliance may be subject to administrative reminders or sanctions in accordance with existing LGU policies,” the order added.
