The supply of big-sized bangus (milkfish) in Pangasinan has dropped, pushing up prices in the local markets.

At the Mangaldan Public Market in Pangasinan, vendors are finding it harder to source large-sized bangus. According Celia Arenas, a fish vendor, she used to get around 100 kilos of bangus daily from Magsaysay Fish Market in Dagupan City. But now, she’s lucky if she gets 75 kilos.

“Tumaas ang presyo ngayon dahil sa panahon,” Arenas said.

The price of regular to large-sized bangus has increased to around 240 per kilo. Meanwhile, small-sized bangus is more abundant due to overflows in some fish ponds caused by continuous rains in the past weeks.

This has forced some fish growers to harvest early. Small-sized bangus is now being sold at P100 per kilo.

“Iba na ang binili kong isda, nag-bangus na ako kahapon,” Jeanette Soriano, a consumer, said.

Fish farms in Binmaley and parts of western Pangasinan were affected by floods brought by Typhoono #EmongPH. But Engr. Rosendo So, chairman of SINAG, remains optimistic.

“Siguro temporary lang ‘yan. Hopefully mag-settle ‘yung situation, bumaba na rin ‘yan,” So said.

As of July 29, 2025, the farmgate price of bangus in Dagupan City stands at P170 to P180 per kilo. Fish vendors and consumers alike are hoping the prices will stabilize soon.
