The massive flooding in Luzon may have caused a headache for many but it has also provided an unexpected business opportunity to some.

In Calasiao, Pangasinan, motorcycles and tricycles lined up at repair shops have become a common sight as floodwaters.

These vehicles ended up at the shop after getting damaged after being submerged in floodwaters.

Angel Sarmiento said her motorcycle stalled after she drove it through a flooded area.

“Lahat ng makina, lubog eh. Hindi na makatakbo, nag-slide iyong fan belt,” Sarmiento said.

According to a local repair shop, they receive at least eight motorcycles a day for servicing. Aside from water seeping into the engine, mechanics also check the brakes to prevent other problems.

Mario Marciada, a mechanic, explained how damage can occur even if the engine seems to survive the flood.

Iyon, nagkakaroon ng cause na problem,” he said.

Four-wheeled vehicles also make up a large part of the repair load. Issues like faulty brakes and water-damaged interiors and engines are common after a car gets stuck in the flood.

Christian Angelo Bautista, who owns a car care shop, advised motorists to check their destinations before traveling during heavy rains.
