The alert level on Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island has been downgraded to Alert Level 2 from Alert Level 3.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), from May 14, 2025 to July 29, 2025, a decline in volcanic earthquakes, volcanic gas emission events, and ground deformations was apparent.
Volcanic earthquakes logged an average of 14 daily, while an average of over 1,800 tons of sulfur emission was recorded daily, PHIVOLCS stated.
The reduction to Alert Level 2 allows the Local Government Units (LGUs) to decide on the return of remaining evacuees living within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone.
"Ang ating volcanic parameters nag-slow down. May pag-decrease sa level ng seismicity at sulfur dioxide emission. Na-notice rin natin na last emission was June 5 [2025] pa,” said Kanlaon Volcano Observatory resident volcanologist, Engr. Mari Andylene Quintia.
