A 60-year-old former teacher was shot and killed in Bayambang, Pangasinan, allegedly by his own neighbor, over a dispute over a road right of way.

Police identified the victim as Alfredo dela Cruz, a resident of Barangay Bical Norte. He was gunned down while refueling his vehicle at a gas station around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

According to investigators, the suspect approached the victim and shot him in the head.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage helped authorities identify the suspect who had fled the scene but was arrested later in the town of Sual.

Bayambang Police Chief PLTCOL Rommel Bagsic said the shooting may have stemmed from a long-standing conflict.

“Old grudge.

The victim’s brother, Rolando dela Cruz, believes the suspect had been harboring resentment.

“Siguro nagtanim ng galit iyong suspek, hanggang siguro natiyempuhan iyong kapatid ko,” he said.

Police said the suspect was out of prison on bail for several charges during the the shooting.

The suspect, who declined to comment, now faces a murder charge.
