An alleged drunk policeman was accused of stealing a cellphone, illegal discharge of firearm, and other infractions in Minglanilla town, Cebu.
The incident happened evening on July 28, 2025.
The 45-year-old policeman, with the rank of staff sergeant, was arrested past 1 a.m. on July 29, 2025, after a warehouse worker accused him of cellphone theft.
The suspect was also accused of indiscriminate firing in Purok Nangka Lower Linao, Barangay Lipata, Minglanilla.
According to an investigation done by the Minglanilla Police Station, they responded to two alarms past 11 p.m. on July 28, 2025, implicating the said policeman.
A civilian companion of the policeman was also arrested for alleged trespassing.
Witnesses narrated that the two suspects arrived at a warehouse to respond allegedly to an alarm on persons hurling stones. The cop vowed purportedly to secure the area. However, an altercation ensued between him and the workers, the details of which were not disclosed though, as of this writing.
The cop took allegedly a cellphone of one of the workers he had a verbal tussle with. However, the cellphone worth around P5,000 was recovered by the owner.
The cop was directed to take a paraffin test, while the firearm he reportedly used went through ballistic examination.
Charges for violation of domicile, illegal discharge of firearm, unjust vexation, and theft are prepared against the policeman, aside from an administrative case.
According to Police Major Arieza Otida, chief of the Minglanilla Municipal Police Station, and Cebu Police Provincial Office Director Col. Christopher Bermudez, they will delve into the incident to ensure that erring policemen will have no place in the organization.
GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak tried to get a statement from the suspects, but they refused an interview.
