The local government of Cagayan de Oro City has launched the Philippines’ first artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory in a public school at Dansolihon National High School located in one of the city’s hinterland barangays.
According to the city government, the initiative is part of the Relevant Industry Skills for Employment (RISE) program, which aims to strengthen students’ technology-based skills.
The laboratory is equipped with 51 computers and a LED TV to support student learning. It also offers opportunities for regular students and Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners to gain AI-related skills.
Through this facility, students will be trained in modern technologies such as data annotation, data coding, and 3D creation, which are in-demand in today’s online job market.
Students will also have the opportunity to learn technical knowledge in drone assembly and drone operation.
“Real is not just a laboratory, it is a bridge from the present to the future, a bridge from the underserved to opportunity from hope to realization ang mga bata sa hinterland nanimuyo maoy hatagan ug importansya sa ilang pagtuon,” Mayor Rolando Uy said.
