The voter registration for the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) has begun in various areas across Mindanao on Friday, August 1, 2025.

In General Santos City, registrants flocked to a registration site at a mall.

COMELEC-GenSan said thousands are expected to register, especially young voters 15 to 30 years old, who are eligible to vote in the SK elections. Regular voter registration is also ongoing for 18 years old and above.

The voter registration starts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until August 10.

The poll body also announced that the August 4 and 5 schedule are exclusive for senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs).

Local transfer of registration records will not be accommodated during the registration period.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) urged registrants to fill out the registration form before going to the site to speed up the process. The form can be downloaded from the COMELEC website.

“Ipa-print lang nila in legal size or folio size, back to back, one copy lang po. We need a photocopy of their valid ID, as well as the original valid ID upon visiting the registration,” COMELEC-GenSan Election Officer, Atty. Sittie Sharmaine Papandayan-Garangan, said.

In Davao City, the first day of registration also saw a strong turnout of youth voters, and the process was smooth and orderly.

COMELEC reminded the public that voter record reactivation can be done online by emailing the local election officer.

Meanwhile, in Cagayan de Oro City, applicants in the first district lined up inside a mall to register.

Among them was a 70-year-old Erlinda Oporto, a resident of one of the farthest barangays in the city, who registered for the first time.

“Para maka exercise siya sa iyang rights nga maka vote siya kay wala gyud siya sukad first time ni niya kung madayon sa iyang 70 yrs,” Oporto’s niece, Lucille Maghanoy, said.

COMELEC said if the Barangay and SK Elections in December are postponed, another voter registration period may be opened.

“Let’s wait for further announcement. In case di matuloy yung election probably merong susunod na registration period pero kung matuloy siyempre we will continue with the preparations for elections,” Garangan added.
