Rice, corn, and fuel supplies in Itbayat, Batanes are now running low as bad weather continues to affect transport to the island.

According to the Batanes Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the ongoing rains and rough seas have made it hard for boats and planes to deliver goods from Basco.

It has been raining in the province for more than two weeks.

Most of Itbayat’s food and fuel supplies come from Basco. But with strong waves and poor flying conditions, regular delivery trips have been delayed or canceled.

Authorities said stocks of rice, corn, animal feed, and even petroleum products are almost depleted.

A missionary flight by the Philippine Air Force is expected to bring in relief goods in the coming days.
