Two minor female students died when the motorcycle they were riding with one other student crashed into a house in Barangay Balintawak in Pagadian City.
The student who was driving the motorcycle sustained injuries.
Based on investigation, the female students, 16 and 17 years old, and the driver, 16, are Grade 11 students of Zamboanga del Sur National High School.
Police said the three reportedly visited a hilltop destination in the area during class hours.
While traveling downhill on their way home, the motorcycle allegedly lost its brakes and crashed into a house.
“Isa sa mga probable cause nito, unang-una, class hour ‘to, malamang tumakas to sa school nila,” Pagadian City Police Chief, Lt. Col. Jerwin Cagurin, said.
“Nung pababa na sila, nawalan ng brake yung motor nila. Dire-diretso sila doon sa bahay,” he added.
As of this writing, the school administration has yet to confirm whether the students, indeed, did not attend classes. In a statement, the school expressed its sympathies to the victims’ families.
The school also urged the public to refrain from posting or sharing hurtful and negative remarks during this difficult time for the victims and requested that the families’ privacy be respected and that they be given the space they need to grieve and recover.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the family of the victims for a statement, as of this writing.
Meanwhile, authorities are set to strengthen their campaign against minors driving without a license.
