A closed-circuit television (CCTV) video captured the entry of a person inside an establishment. The man concealed his head and face. It was observed that the man was searching for something with the use of a flashlight. Later, the man shifted the position of the CCTV camera.
The man is considered a suspect in the theft of a gasoline station in Barangay 8, San Miguel town, Province of Iloilo dawn on August 2, 2025.
The man entered the establishment by destroying the steel matting of the window. He proceeded distorting steel bars of the vault to be able to reach with his grasp the money inside.
He carted away cash worth approximately P50,000.
Police confirmed that the suspect was not able to take the entire content of the vault, though.
Based on disclosure made by the owner of the gas station, a bigger amount was left behind worth P150,000.
"Mahirap kasing abutin, hindi mapasok ng kamay. Kaya nga gumamit siya ng tinidor na (itinali sa) handle ng walis. Nasa loob ang box at hindi mo malalamang may pera doon,” Captain Bryan Alejo, officer in charge of the San Miguel Municipal Police Station, said.
A person of interest was determined by the police in coordination with the gas station owner, but the identity has not been established yet as of this writing.
"According sa may-ari, may mga customer na ma-notice niya sa CCTV na kapag bumibili ng oil doon, matagal umalis sa pintuan at parang nagmamanman,” Alejo added.
Further, authorities have not discounted the possibility of an "inside job."
The gas station owner refused to give a statement on the incident.
Police reminded once more the public to never leave huge amount of money in establishments, especially at closing time.
