The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued an advisory on Visayas Grid Yellow Alert Status on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
The Yellow Alert is hoisted from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Available capacity is at 2,889 megawatts (MW), with peak demand at 2,489MW.
Twelve (12) plants have been on forced outage from April [2025] to August [2025] and six (6) other power plants out since 2023; while eight (8) are running on derated capacities, for a total of 744MW unavailable to the grid, the NGCP advisory reads.
Factors that contributed to the raising of yellow alert, according to NGCP, are a significant number of plants on unplanned/forced outages and derated capacities, and high system demand.
The Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
