Five people were hurt, two of them critically, after a closed van lost its brakes and crashed into four tricycles parked along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Sto. Niño, Gapan City, Nueva Ecija.
Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage shows the van moving fast before swerving suddenly and ramming into the tricycles parked by the roadside at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025.
According to police, the crash involved a bystander, two tricycle drivers, and two passengers. Two victims were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, while the other three suffered minor injuries.
“Nawalan po siya ng preno ['yung closed van]. Unfortunately, noong nawalan siya ng kontrol, sinubukan niyang iwasan ‘yung mga motorista sa harapan. Pinilit po na iliko sa kanto at hindi po inaasahan inararo niya po ‘yung apat na nakaparadang sasakyan ['yung tricycle], at nagkaroon din po ng injury na limang taong nandoon po,” PCpl. Arvin Tumacder, investigator of Gapan City Police Station, said.
The van was carrying farm products bound for Llanera.
Authorities have already filed charges against the van driver.
