A man caught on CCTV stealing a jeep battery in Barangay San Miguel, Calasiao, Pangasinan has yet to face consequences, despite being clearly identified and reported previously for similar acts.

Around 2 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, a car battery worth nearly P7,000 was stolen from a parked jeep while the neighborhood slept.

In the CCTV footage, the man is first seen walking down the street. In another clip, he is shown carrying the battery, later revealed to have been taken from a nearby jeep.

Barangay officials have identified the suspect, who is believed to be a neighbor and even a relative of the jeep’s owner.

“Inaksyunan din ng barangay kung sino ‘yung kumuha ng baterya. Nangyari ‘to kasi nung alas-dos ng umaga, so lahat ng tao is tulog na. So nakita rin mismo sa CCTV footage kung sino ‘yung kumuha ng baterya,” Barangay Councilman Rony Basa said.

Basa said the suspect had been reported twice previously for similar incidents. Despite summons, the suspect allegedly refused to appear before the barangay.

“Wala pa naman pong detalye na nakukuha namin sa suspek kasi nga po ‘yung sa summon po, eh hindi siya uma-attend. Ayaw niyang pumunta dito sa barangay hall,” Basa added.

The suspect has not released a statement and failed again to attend the scheduled barangay hearing.

As of this writing, no formal complaint has been filed with the Calasiao police, though officers say they are ready to launch an investigation once the jeep owner comes forward.

To continue his livelihood, the jeepney owner has already purchased a new battery.
