An online seller in Iloilo City lost pieces of jewelry to robbers who pretended to be customers.
The robbers took reportedly a gold bracelet worth P50,000; a ring worth P89,000; cash worth P2,000, and cellphone worth P35,000.
Alias “Yan,” 24 years old, ekes out a living by selling pieces of jewelry online. A video on the incident captured two persons on board a motorcycle. The person riding in pillion shot alias "Yan" twice before fleeing.
Based on police investigation, the victim carried out a transaction through his social media with the two suspects who pretended to purchase pieces of jewelry.
“Hindi niya kilala personally, through Messenger lang sila nag-uusap. Mga five (5) days lang at (nitong August 4 [2025]), dumating ang stock niya mula sa Manila kaya nagkita sila,” Captain Lester Oliveros, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 8, said.
In an interview with GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, the victim said he is still reeling from the incident but is thankful that he was not hurt in the shooting.
"Grabe ang aking takot. Mabuti na lang, hindi niya ako tinamaan,” Yan said.
Yan surmised that a group is behind the crime. He said that prior to the incident, he saw a car in the vicinity.
“May nakita ako sa unahan lang, parang may lalaki na pulubi pero naka-cellphone. Pag lagpas niya sa likod ko, may tinawagan siya na parang nag-ta-Tagalog, na 'may trabaho na ako dito,' na 'ayos dito.' At doon na humarurot ang motor,” Yan narrated.
Police believe the suspects have no intention of hurting the victim, but fired at him to threaten him purportedly.
As of this writing, the suspects are being tracked down.
