A municipal employee died after he was shot multiple times by unidentified gunmen at a roadside eatery in Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija.
The victim, a 52-year-old team leader of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), sustained at least 15 gunshot wounds to the head and body.
Authorities believe the shooting may be related to his work, as he had just come from inspecting poultry farms before the incident.
Based on police investigation, the victim was at a local eatery around 7:30 p.m. when two suspects on a motorcycle arrived.
CCTV footage showed the motorcycle parked nearby. The driver got off first and walked toward the canteen, followed shortly by the gunman who shot the victim using a .45-caliber pistol.
The suspects fled the scene quickly.
"Agad namang tumawag sa istasyon ng pulisya ang live-in partner ng biktima kung saan tinangka pang isugod sa malapit na pagamutan ang biktima pero sa kasamaang palad ay idineklarang dead on arrival ang biktima sa dami ng tinamong tama ng bala," PMaj. Ferdinand Somera, Peñaranda Police Chief, said.
Police are still trying to identify the suspects and are considering the victim’s official duties as a possible motive. The Peñaranda local government has offered a P200,000 reward for information that will lead to the gunmen.
As of writing, the victim's family has yet to issue a statement.
