A firetruck from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) San Agustin crashed into a house instead of reaching a fire, after reportedly losing its brakes while headed to the incident.

The accident happened around 2:05 p.m. on the national highway in Barangay Dappig, San Agustin, Isabela.

The firetruck was heading to a fire near Dorganda National High School when its brakes failed reportedly.

According to initial investigation of the San Agustin Police Station, FO3 Keneth Mark Loez Baguiwong was driving the firetruck, with FO2 John Alejandro Abad as his passenger. The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a house owned by Joydil Palacay Manuel.

Both BFP personnel sustained injuries and were immediately brought to Prospero G. Bello Integrated Community Hospital in Jones, Isabela.

“Ayon na rin sa pakikipag-ugnayan natin sa investigation on case sa San Agustin Police Station, agaran naman silang nakatawag ng back-up mula sa BFP-Jones, Isabela na kung saan ‘yun na po ang nagtungo sa nagaganap na sunog malapit po dito sa may national high school,” PCapt. Terrence Tomas, PIO of the Isabela Police Provincial Office, said.

The front portion of the firetruck was damaged heavily, and the extent of damage to the house is still being assessed.

As of writing, the BFP-San Agustin has yet to issue an official statement. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
