Authorities have identified a police officer as the suspect in the killing of his 24-year-old girlfriend, who was found dead with a gunshot wound in Bayambang, Pangasinan.

The young woman was found dead with a bullet wound in Sitio Pocdol, Barangay Bani, Bayambang, Pangasinan, around 7 a.m. on July 21, 2025.

Police identified the suspect as her boyfriend, a 31-year-old policeman assigned to the Regional Force Battalion of the NCRPO in Taguig.

CCTV footage helped investigators trace the timeline of events, beginning in Taguig and ending in Pangasinan.

Morning on July 20, the victim was seen leaving her boarding house in Taguig and walking toward the hospital where she worked. Later that day, she was seen riding with the suspect on his motorcycle. By 9 p.m., the two were caught on camera in Barangay Wawa and then in Barangay Poblacion, Bayambang.

The footage showed the suspect alone on his motorcycle after they passed Barangay Bani, where the crime happened.

A witness told police that before the killing, the couple was seen arguing at a waiting shed near the area where the victim’s body was found. Investigators also recovered a 9mm bullet casing from the area.

According to Bayambang Police Chief, PLTCOL. Rommel Bagsic, the victim told her boyfriend she would only visit Pangasinan overnight to go swimming.

“Ang paalam ng biktima sa kanyang boyfriend, pupunta daw ng Pangasinan, overnight balikan para mag-swimming lang. Pero considering iyong date at time, gabi na at umuulan. Ang sabi po nila, iyong kabarrack mate ng pulis ay may birthday sa Sta. Barbara,” Bagsic said.

“So malamang nagkaroon na sila ng pag-aaway during papunta na sila ng Pangasinan, at dito na nabaril ng ating suspek iyong biktima,” he added.

Authorities are now holding the suspect in NCRPO Taguig and have filed cases of murder and grave misconduct against him.

Bagsic said two possible motives are being investigated.

“Una, possible away po nila dahil iyong lalaki nga po ay may-asawa, so possible crime of passion. And then the other thing is malamang po iyong utang, kasi based po sa statement ng boyfriend ng biktima, may utang itong pulis sa biktima na hindi nababayaran despite ng series ng paniningil nitong biktima,” he said.

“And iyong July 20, ang sweldo ng biktima, kakasahod lang nya, based sa ating mga videos na nakuha. Hindi na po umuwi from work to boarding house iyong babae. So malamang, dala-dala nya iyong pera. So kinuha na rin po ng pulis iyong pera nitong ating biktima. Hindi umaalis iyong biktima na walang 50,000 sa kanyang bag,” he added.
