An 18-year-old student allegedly shot his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend inside her classroom in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija morning on Thursday, August 7, 2025, before turning the gun on himself.
Both were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
According to police, the suspect entered the school past 10 a.m., went straight to his former girlfriend’s classroom, and asked her to come out.
When the girl refused, the suspect allegedly forced his way in and shot her in the upper body, hitting her in the neck, before shooting himself.
The two were brought first to the Doctor’s Hospital in Cabanatuan City but the suspect was transferred to the Paulino Garcia Memorial Medical Center.
In a report by Raffy Tima on 24 Oras, authorities said students who witnessed the incident are now receiving help for trauma. The police have also coordinated with the Department of Education (DepEd) for stress debriefing for both students and teachers.
The school has been closed temporarily.
“According po sa guard, nung una pinigil niya, which is napigilan naman, then inantay niya na, inantay niya siguro na maglabasan ‘yung students, sumabay dun, so hindi na na-notice ng security guard na naka-post dun,” P/Maj. Willard Lumawig Dulnuan, Chief of Sta. Rosa Police Station, said.
A friend of the girl told investigators that the suspect reportedly could not accept that his relationship with the girl had ended.
“Accordingly, mag-lovers sila then naghiwalay. Parang tinitingnang [motibo] is crime of passion ang nangyari. Parang nakipaghiwalay po yata ‘yung babae. Ngayon, according sa witness na kaibigan ng babae, hindi accepted ng lalaki [ang nangyaring breakup],” Dulnuan said.
Police recovered a small caliber .22 snub-nose revolver from the crime scene. Investigation will look into how the suspect got the gun and whether the gun is licensed.
The night guard said they check outsiders who enter the school but they reportedly do not conduct body searches.
The families of both the victim and the suspect have declined to give a statement.
