Three alleged members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) were killed while three others were arrested during a manhunt operation and serving of arrest warrants against high profile fugitives in Barangay Lamin, Lumbayanague, Lanao del Sur.
According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), three wanted persons were killed, two men and a woman, while three other men were arrested during the operation.
CIDG said the six fugitives are subjects of arrest warrants for murder and homicide issued by a court in Marawi City on October 17, 2023.
“They are alleged members of the Dawlah Islamiya Maute Group (DI-MG), and are listed in the AFP Periodic Status Report (PSR) 2023,” CIDG said.
CIDG said the alleged leader of the DI Maute Group-ISIS and other subjects of the arrest warrant escaped.
Seized during the clearing operations were rifles, a caliber .45 pistol, a hand grenade, a rocket propelled grenade (RPG), an M79 grenade launcher, improvised explosive device (IED) blasting caps, two ISIS flags, ammunition, and fired cartridges.
A soldier also sustained a gunshot wound in the left knee during the encounter. He is now in stable condition, as of this writing.
“I commend the CIDG Regional Field Unit, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (CIDG RFU BAR) and joint units for your bravery, swift and responsive police action that resulted in the capture of these high profile fugitives amidst the risk and danger of losing your own lives. It underscores your unyielding stance in arresting all criminals and wanted persons,” CIDG Director, Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano, said.
The 1st Infantry Division (1ID) also said the successful operation was a major victory against the DI-MG.
“This decisive strike significantly weakens the Dawlah Islamiyah–Maute Group’s operational capabilities. It sends a clear message that the Armed Forces, in coordination with other security agencies, will relentlessly pursue those who seek to disrupt peace in Mindanao,” 1ID Commander, Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., said.
