The supply of bangus (milkfish) in Pangasinan remains steady despite a slight increase in prices, according to the Samahan ng Magbabangus ng Pangasinan (SAMAPA).
To prevent oversupply in local markets, milkfish producers have been coordinating their harvest schedules.
“Nag-uusap na ang mga bangus producer kung kailan mag-harvest. Hindi kagaya dati, kanya-kanya. Ngayon, since may organization, nag-uusap na,” Julius Benagua, technical consultant of SAMAPA, said.
Farm gate prices are currently at P180 to P190 per kilo, while retail prices in Mangaldaan Public Market range from P200 to P220 per kilo, higher than in previous months.
“Siyempre bibili sila kahit medyo mahal ang bangus,” Lilia Mola, a vendor, said.
“Kailangan kasi namin kaya bibili kami, pero sana bumaba din ang presyo,” Julieta Visperas, a buyer, added.
SAMAPA also assured that the series of typhoons and monsoon rains last July 2025, which caused some fishpens to overflow and forced early harvests, will not affect supply.
Replacement fingerlings have already been stocked and are expected to be harvested by December 2025 in time for the holiday season.
