The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Pangasinan has surpassed its 75,000 target after at least 110,000 residents registered for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections during the voter registration from August 1 to 10, 2025.
Data from COMELEC-Pangasinan showed that 73,181 registrants are between 15 to 17 years old. They can vote in the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections. Meanwhile, 37,493 are 18 years old and above.
Sanjie Gatchalian, a 17-year-old first-time registrant, said his experience was pleasant despite the crowd.
“Bale, ok lang naman po ‘yung registration as marami po ‘yung tao, tsaka medyo first time ko rin po kasi magparegister din,” he said.
Provincial Election Supervisor, Atty. Marino Salas, said most of the SK applicants are students they reached out to actively.
“So, ito, boboto po sila sa SK, mga first-timer po ito. At most of them po, mga nasa schools ‘tong mga ito, mga estudyante. So sila po ‘yung mga pinuntahan natin, binigyan po natin ng priority,” Salas said.
The cities of Dagupan and San Carlos posted the highest number of applicants in the province.
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has yet to sign the order postponing the Barangay and SK Elections (BSKE) 2025 but Salas said COMELEC is prepared if the polls push through on December 1.
“Ang COMELEC po ay implementing agency lang. Kung ano ‘yung existing na batas, ‘yun po ang susundan namin. As far as we’re concerned, mayroon po tayong election sa December 1,” he said.
