The 15-year-old Grade 10 student who was shot in the head by an ex-boyfriend inside her classroom at the Sta. Rosa Integrated School in Nueva Ecija remains in critical condition, as of this writing.

Latest update from the Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center (PJGMRMC) showed that the female student was still comatose on dependent on life support.

“She was admitted… nasa coma stage na po siya, medyo mababa na po yung blood pressure niya, wala na po siyang sariling paghinga… brain surgery at this time will be detrimental… the plan is to stabilize her condition,” Dr. Allan Vonn Casallo, consultant neurosurgeon at PJGMRMC, said on August 9, 2025.

Doctors have not removed the bullet from her head due to her unstable condition.

Casallo said transferring her to another hospital is too risky, as it could cause cardiac or respiratory arrest.

“Wala pong improvement simula pa lang… tumataas po yung mga kailangan na gamot para sa blood pressure,” Dr. Ivy Torres, a resident doctor, added.

Casallo assured the hospital is providing all the services needed and medicine, free of charge, under the Department of Health (DOH)’s no-balance-billing policy.

MOTHER APPEALS FOR PRAYERS

The victim’s mother described her daughter as kind and diligent.

“Sobrang bait po ng bata na ’yan. Talagang aral school lang po ang ginagawa niya,” she said.

She asked the public for help and to offer prayers for her daughter's recovery.

“[Sa]na matulungan ang pagdadasal na makarecover po ’yung anak ko,” she said.

INCIDENT AND SUSPECT’S DEATH

The shooting happened morning on August 7, 2025 when the 18-year-old suspect and shot the victim inside the classroom when she refused to get out of the room. He then turned the gun on himself.

Both were rushed to separate hospitals in critical condition.

The suspect later died afternoon on August 8 after his family decided to take him home.

CASE CLOSED?

Sta. Rosa Police Chief PMaj. Wiliard Dulnuan said the criminal case was closed following the suspect's death.

However, police are still tracing the source of the gun, which had no serial number. Security in schools in the area will be tightened.

“Maghihigpit na po talaga ng seguridad… maggagawa po sila ng plans and programs para ma-uplift ‘yung security ng ating mga eskwelahan,” Dulnuan said.
