Three members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) were killed while three others were injured after the minivans they were riding were ambushed in Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao del Sur on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

The fatalities were identified as alias “Haris,” “Alimasadin,” and “Obama.” Those who were injured were identified as alais “Akbar,” “Ham,” and “Malibuteng,” the commander of the 128th MILF Base Command.

The injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The victim’s vans were also riddled with bullets.

Authorities said the suspects, who allegedly belonged to another MILF group under the 118th Base Command, fled after the incident.

Recovered from the crime scene were more than 100 empty shells from various firearms.

Police said the victims were on their way to Pembalkan, Mamasapano when they were attacked upon reaching Proper Linantangan in Shariff Saydona Mustapha.

Authorities are looking into whether the ambush was related to a clan feud or “rido.”

“So inaalam pa natin kung rido ba ito or talagang away lang ng mga grupo,” Maguindanao Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Capt. Guiseppe Tamayo, said.

Police are set to file a written protest to the MILF leadership.

“Usually, ang ginagawa ng ating kapulisan, magsu-submit ng written protest  sa ating pamunuan ng ating peace-inclined groups, yung ating MILF, para magkaroon ng sanction yung mga ganitong tauhan nila na involved,” Tamayo added.
