Bacolod City logged a total of 6,362 new registered voters, while 78,320 in the Province of Negros Occidental from August 1 to 10, 2025.
However, registrants had to deal with long queues in Iloilo City on the last day of the voter registration.
Eighteen-year-old XY Z Tacaisan had to return on August 10, 2025 for not making it to the cut-off schedule on August 9, 2025.
“Very busy sa school and hectic ang schedule. Hindi namin alam na cut-off na to,” Tacaisan said.
However, there were several others who sought registration earlier but still did not make it to the 9 a.m. cut-off time on August 10, 2025.
“Sana sa susunod na election, maghanap ng another venue para ma-spread ang mga tao, kesa isang venue lang,” Matthew Villanueva, a registrant, suggested.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said that they have to observe a cut-off time to accommodate a total of 1,700 individuals in queue.
“They are advised na bumalik sa next na schedule ng registration na ilalabas ng COMELEC,” according to COMELEC-Iloilo City Election Officer, Atty. Pinky Tentativa.
A video showed that young registrants raced for their slots in the queue as soon as the venue opened. Others were seen going over the fence to get inside a mall that serves as venue for the registration in Bacolod City on August 9, 2025.
Due to congestion, there were individuals who reportedly felt dizzy and collapsed.
“Hindi talaga organized ang linya. As in matindi ang takot namin, sa feeling lang na ma-ipit na kami, na hindi na kami makahinga,” Daniella, a voter registrant, said.
However, Atty. Katrina Trinio-Caña, election officer of COMELEC Bacolod, said that the queues were organized, but the registrants pushed others in order to be served first.
“Hindi maganda. Ang organized na pila nasira dahil nagkatulakan na sila,” Caña said.
Police admitted they had a hard time putting order among an alleged unruly registrants.
“Meron silang entrance doon, may entrance pa dito. Ang problema sa crowd, hindi nakikinig, nagtutulakan,” said Captain Ramie Sayson, deputy chief of the Bacolod City Police Office-Station 3.
In the entire Western Visayas, COMELEC logged a total of 137,467 new voter registrants.
Meanwhile, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. confirmed that he is set to sign a bill on the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2025.
Instead of December 1, 2025, the BSKE will be moved to November 2, 2026. But COMELEC 6 pursues their preparations for BSKE 2025 despite the impending enactment of the postponement.
“The Commission will just act accordingly. Titingnan natin at mag-observe dahil may mga sector na balak mag-question kung magiging batas na,” Atty. Dennis Ausan, COMELEC 6 director, said.
