A tricycle driver died while his passenger was injured after the vehicle they were riding crashed into a truck on De Venecia Extension Road in Dagupan City evening on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Dashcam footage showed the tricycle moving on the opposite lane and forcing another tricycle to counterflow.

Moments later, it swerved into the path of an oncoming closed-van truck, leading to a violent collision. The impact threw parts of the tricycle, as well as its driver and passenger, onto the road.

"Noong nandoon na sila sa place of incident, itong closed van, paakyat po siya. Then suddenly, ito pong tricycle nag-swerve po sa lane ng closed van kaya sumalpok ‘yung tricycle sa van," PLTCOL. Lawrence Calub, OIC of Dagupan City Police Station, said.

Police investigation found that both the driver and passenger of the tricycle had been drinking.

The driver was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to severe injuries, while the passenger is recovering.

The driver of the closed van and helper were unharmed and declined to give interviews.

Authorities reminded motorists not to drive under the influence of alchohol or when unfit to operate a vehicle.
