Acting Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II has denied that the City Council has passed a resolution declaring a comedian persona non grata for supposedly mocking former President Rodrigo Duterte during a concert in Manila.
A copy of the supposed document has been shared online.
But the document, which mimicked the format a Council resolution, lacked key details such as the resolution number and the signatures of councilors.
Duterte said the document is fake.
In a statement, Duterte said the City Council has more important matters to attend to than entertaining skits of performers.
“Contrary to what this viral document suggests, the Council’s time and energy are devoted to crafting policies and programs that improve the lives of Dabawenyos—enhancing infrastructure, ensuring public safety, creating livelihood opportunities, and strengthening social services,” Duterte said.
He added that the city will not be swayed by what he described as ‘cheap insults and distasteful jokes made for clout.’
“Public figures… who use their platform to mock rather than uplift, reveal more about their own character than about the people they ridicule,” Duterte said.
“The dignity and pride of Dabawenyos are not for sale and certainly not for comedy fodder,” he added.
