A 15-year-old Grade 10 student who was shot by her former boyfriend inside her classroom in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija, has died six days after the attack.
The female victim, a resident of Barangay La Fuente, passed away around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
She had been comatose since August 7 due to a severe gunshot wound to the head. Doctors said her condition never improved during her hospital stay.
In their last health bulletin on August 9, they reported her blood pressure remained unstable, she was on life support, and medicine dosages had to be increased to keep her alive.
The shooting happened past 10 a.m. on August 7, when the 18-year-old suspect entered Sta. Rosa Integrated School, tried to get Zhane out of her classroom, and opened fire when she refused. He then shot himself.
Police said the suspect, who died a day after the shooting, allegedly could not accept their breakup.
The bullet that hit Zhane remained lodged in her head as doctors deemed surgery too risky due to her unstable condition.
Hospital officials said her treatment was covered by the Department of Health’s no-balance-billing policy.
Police recovered a .22-caliber snub-nose revolver with no serial number at the scene and are still tracing its source.
Authorities have coordinated with the Department of Education to provide trauma counseling for students and teachers, while security measures in schools are being reviewed and tightened.
Her remains have been brought home to Barangay La Fuente in Sta. Rosa.
