The Iloilo City Police Office is hailed “Best City Police Office” in 2025 nationwide.
The Iloilo City Police Office was recognized during the 124th Police Service Anniversary of the Philippine National Police.
Iloilo City Police Office Director, Colonel Kim Legada, and Jerry Treñas, former mayor of Iloilo City, accepted the award at Camp Crame in Quezon City on August 12, 2025.
According to Major Shella Sangrines, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), one of the basis for the recognition is ICPO’s initiative to maintain peace and order in the city.
“Ito ang magsisilbing karagdagang inspirasyon at motivation sa buong Iloilo City Police Office dahil nararamdaman nating appreciated tayo,” Sangrines said.
In an official statement, Police Regional Office 6 said that the honor accorded to ICPO is a result of the coordination between police and the community.
However, according to Jolito Chavez, a tricycle driver, he does not feel the presence of the police in the city.
“Sa palagay ko kulang pa dahil marami pa ring krimen na nangyayari,” Chavez said. One of which is the recent stabbing of a juvenile in a fracas in Jaro Plaza, the wounding of two juveniles in a separate brawl in Mandurriao District, incidents of theft in Jaro and La Paz Districts, among other crimes.
Further, ICPO assured that it is tightly focused on addressing the said incidents to prevent similar ones from happening again, and vowed of extensive police visibility.
“We will remain committed to serve and protect the Ilonggo people and we continue to appeal na patuloy nyo kaming suportahan at tulungan upang ma-maintain natin ang kapayapaan sa Lungsod ng Iloilo,” Sangrines added.
Meanwhile, Jules Jabonite, a student, said that ICPO deserves the award.
“The police officers here in Iloilo City are doing well in their jobs and they are more deserving to have that award,” Jabonite said.
