A road was damaged while several houses were submerged in floodwaters following heavy rains in South Cotabato and Maguindanao del Sur.

In South Cotabato, a road that connects Purok Balabat and Purok Dignadice in Barangay Poblacion, Polomolok was damaged following heavy rains on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Several residents and motorists were also stranded.

According to some residents, the connecting road was built in March 2025, and it served as an alternate route while the Saldua Bridge was under construction.

“Bale yung Balabat alternate road yan sa paggawa ng Saldua Bridge gilagyan lang natin ng design parang overflow lang siya para temporary nga maagian sa dagkung sakyanan kaya lang medyo kakaiba lang talaga ang ulan, at ang baha, hindi lang baha pati ang tubig may lupa,” Polomolok Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Head, Engr. Jonathan Fabulare, said.

The connecting road is impassable, as of this writing. However, alternate routes have been put in place.

“Our commuters, our passengers pwede silang mag-take sa Ma. Rosa Bridge, we also have crossing Repolyo, we also have Holy trinity,” Municipal Administrator, Joven Malida, said.

In the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (SGA-BARMM), several houses in Tugunan town were submerged in floodwaters following heavy rains.

Because of the flood, several motorists had a hard time crossing the national road.

Floodwaters in Barangay Nabundas in the town of Malidegao also reached knee-deep and entered several houses.

The Office of the Civil Defense-BARMM has coordinated with the local government units to determine the number of households affected.

Meanwhile, flooding also hit Barangay Calumpang in General Santos City.

Several roads were flooded after some drainage canals reportedly overflowed. Floodwaters subsided after a few hours.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the bad weather experienced in Mindanao was caused by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
