A van driver was killed while five nuns and a monk were injured after a trailer truck crashed into the van they were riding crashed in Damulog, Bukidnon.

Police said the truck reportedly overshot a curve, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with the van.

“Itong area na ito, nagpang-abot sila, itong vehicle 2 in which itong truck, nakapasok siya sa opposite lane ng kasalubong niya na van in which nagpang-abot sila ng van. So ito na nga natamaan itong driver,” Bukidnon Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Major Jayvee Babaan, said.

The 66-year-old van driver was declared dead on arrival at the hospital while the injured victims were also rushed to the hospital and are now in safe condition, as of this writing.

Authorities said the van carrying the nuns and the monk were heading to Cotabato from a convent in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon when the accident happened.

“Ok naman, stable naman sila… actually, limang madre sila pero ang na-confine lang is ang apat tapos ang isa ay nag-serve as watcher sa ospital,” Babaan added.

The truck driver was taken into police custody and may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injury, and damage to property.

Police reminded motorists to observe traffic rules and slow down when navigating winding roads.

“Self-discipline when it comes sa driving, right attitude, observe the traffic rules especially yung areas na dapat mag-slow down,” Babaan said.
