A newborn boy was found dead floating in a creek in Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City.

“Wala kay ingon among silingan dinhi nga alas dos sa kadlawon naa’y nag-usig nga iro dayun mao na dayun to pagkabuntag na namo nabal-an,” a resident, Cathelyn Gasajan, said.

Another resident said her daughter heard an infant crying at around 2 a.m.

“Alas dos sa kadlawon ang akong anak nangihi nibakod siya so pagpahingi niya niadto siya sa sulod kay tua man didto ang among kusina ni-inom siya og tubig, pag-inom niya sa tubig natingala siya nga naay bata nga gahilak mao to nahadlok siya ngano naay bata gahilak. So nahadlok siya so mao to nibalik siya og katulog,” another resident, Rudilyn Ocnas, added.

The barangay council has ordered health workers to check all pregnant women in the community.

“Hinaot unta nga ang kalag sa bata sa anghel nga gakson sa atong Ginoo ug mapasaylo pud unta ang inahan kay wala gyud ta kabalo wala tay kasayuran unsa gyud ang maong tumong,” Barnagay Chairman Lancelot Padla, said.

The Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Bulua Police Station is also investigating the incident.

Investigators are looking into a group of teenagers around 13 to 16 years old reportedly seen loitering in the area.

“Nasuta nga naa daw grupo sa batan-on aging 13 to 16 year old nga mulaag diha nga area. So sa pakigsusi nila naa daw buros, so mao to gina-monitor karon gi-surveillance kay kato pud t-shirt daw nga giputos sa bata anaa pud maka-pinpoint nga naa pud nagsuot ato,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Spokesperson, Capt. Emilita Simon, said.

Authorities said the mother and her possible accomplices who abandoned the baby may face infanticide charges.

Police urged anyone with information to come forward and coordinate with authorities.
