More than 100 families were displaced after a sudden flood hit Sitio Bulao in Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City.
Authorities said more than 600 individuals were affected and were forced to evacuate after the water level of the Iponan River rose quickly and overflowed, which inundated nearby homes.
The residents affected were moved to the barangay evacuation center.
Fortunately, no injuries, deaths, missing persons, and property damage were reported.
Iponan usa mani sa ginatawag nga catch basin,” Barangay Councilman Rodel Reyes said.
Floodwaters subsided on Thursday, August 14, allowing evacuees to return to their homes and begin cleaning up.
A resident said this was the third time they had experienced flooding this year.
The barangay council also continues to follow up on the flood control projects in the area.
“Continuous paman wala pa gyud totally na human ang proyekto mao karon musulod pa gyud ang tubig pero dili parehas sauna nga pagdako sa tubig diha-diha naa gyud karon naa pa’y pag-delay gamay sa time kay medyo man ang uban nga mga area nabutangan naman og flood control,” Reyes said.
