The 25-year-old man arrested for stealing jewelry worth around P435,000 in General Santos City claimed he committed the crime to help his sick younger sibling.

Police arrested the suspect on Thursday, August 14, in Barangay North and recovered the stolen items, including watches and other jewelry items.

A CCTV footage showed the suspect entering the house of a businessman in Barangay Fatima dawn on the same day.

The suspect said he needed the money to acquire blood for his sibling who is reportedly suffering from hepatitis.

“Gikinahanglan lang gyud tung kwarta ing-ato para sa akong manghud nga dunay hepa. Kailangan abono og dugo,” the suspect said.

Police said the suspect had allegedly entered the same house several times to steal.

Another CCTV footage on Tuesday captured the suspect climbing the wall of the victim’s house to gain entrance while wearing a hoodie jacket.

The suspect was also seen in a CCTV entering the same house on July 8.

“Aside from that, hindi lang isang beses pinasok yung area na yun, multiple times, hindi lang yun may narecover pa kami kasi according sa kanya  ibang tao ang inutusan niyang magsama. So hindi lang yung nanakaw,” Police Station 7 Commander, Major Noel Cardos, said.

Authorities said the total amount stolen by the suspect could possibly reach millions, something that the suspect belied.

“Katong giingon nila nga P3 million, kung nakuha unta to nako P3 million, dili unta mi maglisod, dili unta mi mag-boarding house,” the suspect said.

The victim is determined to press robbery charges.

The suspect has apologized to the victim.

“Maam/sir, pasaylu-a gud ko, wala gyud ko makuhanan og trabaho kay Grade 5 lang ko taman,” the suspect said.
