Netizen lost around P7,000 to a scammer who claimed to be an employee of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6.
In an interview with Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan, LTO 6 regional director, by GMA Super Radyo Iloilo, it was learned that the suspect used a photograph of an LTO 6 lecturer in duping the netizen.
The suspect promised the netizen he can issue a student permit.
The netizen sent the amount to the suspect, but heard nothing from him after the transaction.
The netizen went personally to LTO 6 where he learned that the transaction was illegal.
Geduspan vowed to undertake legal action against online scammers who use the agency’s name and photographs of its employees in swindling individuals.
In addition, Geduspan said that the agency has submitted formally to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU 6) a list of a few chat groups that announced the agency’s real-time operations. The formal letter to RACU 6 is intended to shut down chat groups that preempt operations due to announcements, as well as the filing of appropriate charges against erring individuals.
Moreover, LTO 6 reminds the public that the agency does not entertain “fixers,” and that it has an ongoing campaign against scammers and fixers.
Geduspan pointed out that the public should be cautious about scammers operating online, especially through chat groups used by unscrupulous individuals to lure victims with illegal services.
