Nearly 200 farmers and cooperatives in Cagayan received over P2.6 billion in indemnity payments from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).
The payout aimed to help farmers recover from losses caused by a series of tropical cyclones in recent months.
Beneficiaries came from the towns of Baggao, Alcala, Amulung, Enrile, Peñablanca, Solana, and Tuguegarao City.
Senator Francis Pangilinan, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, attended the distribution. He urged the PCIC to increase its insurance fund for farmers.
The senator also promised to bring the farmers’ concerns to the proper government agencies, saying he would help ensure their voices are heard.
