A landslide hit two areas in Dapitan City while several barangays experienced flooding in Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte following heavy rains on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
Several motorists were stranded after a landslide occurred and blocked a road in Barangay Sto. Niño, Dapitan City.
Authorities said recent rains may have softened the ground, causing the landslide.
The road affected is now passable after personnel of the Dapitan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) cleared the area.
Another landslide hit a portion of a hill in Sitio Lipata, Barangay Taguilon around 7:45 a.m.
According to a resident, the incident has raised concern among an estimated hundred families living at the foot of the hill.
Authorities continue to monitor the area.
No injuries were reported in the two incidents.
DIPOLOG FLOODING
Meanwhile, residents of Purok Daisy, Camp Hamac, Sicayab, Dipolog City experienced nearly knee-deep flooding following heavy rains around 4 a.m.
Floodwaters reportedly entered several houses in the area.
“Didto sa music room taas na ang tubig below the knee na gyud then among kusina, wala na ang among bugas naglutaw na,” a resident, Mharz Tamayo Doria, said.
The flooding made it difficult for motorists to pass and has caused delays due to heavy traffic along the roads affected.
According to the local government, three barangays in the city were affected, including Barangays Sicayab, Minaog, and Santa Filomena.
No was reported hurt.
Authorities are set to conduct declogging operations to address drainage problems.
“Actually, ‘yun yung isa sa mga recommendations ng ating City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office for the City Engineering to try to clear up whatever is clogged there,” Dipolog City Information Office, Lorenzo Aseniero II, said.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the bad weather condition experienced in Mindanao was due to the localized thunderstorms.
