An appliance center in Lapu-Lapu City lost over P71,000 in cash to burglars.
Three days later, one of the burglars' cohort returned his share of the loot worth P22,000 and squealed the identities of his companions.
The incident happened in Barangay Gun-ob at 1:24 a.m. on August 15, 2025.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera of the barangay captured an electric bike (e-bike) plying on A. Tumulak Street and parking later at a street corner in the vicinity of a motorpool.
Later, the persons on board the e-bike broke into the appliance center through the ceiling.
The money was kept in a drawer which was opened casually by one of the burglars.
According to Lovelyn Rellon, corporate secretary of the appliance center, she is used to having the money remitted every Saturday, but at that time she was confident that the money was in a safe place, citing that the drawer is equipped with locks, the establishment has a CCTV camera, and that the roll-up door is also equipped with padlocks.
According to Lt. Col. Christian Torres, spokesperson of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, one of the suspects turned himself in on August 18, 2025 before Gun-ob Barangay Chairman Carl Steven Weigl.
He is the driver of the e-bike seen in the CCTV footage.
The 19-year-old driver returned his share of the loot worth P22,000 and divulged the identities of two others who took the money.
Personnel of Police Station 3 found out that the other two individuals are juveniles. The person seen breaking into the appliance center through the ceiling is a 15-year-old boy, while his companion who served as lookout is a 14-year-old boy. Both are said to be residents of Barangay Basak.
