Two pigs owned by a hog raiser in Centro 2, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan died and later tested positive African Swine Fever (ASF).
The pigs died on August 13, 2025.
According to the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, this was the first reported case of ASF in the province since 2021.
The Municipal Agriculture Office of Sanchez Mira has started monitoring and surveillance of backyard hogs to control the possible spread of the virus.
