Residents in Camiling, Tarlac have raised concern after cracks were seen on the country’s most expensive flood control project, the P289.5-million Camiling-Agno River Floodway Phase 3.
The project helped protect communities during last month’s storms and heavy monsoon rains, but parts of its concrete structure are now showing damage.
Another slope protection project in the town, built just two years ago and worth P94.5 million, already has holes and exposed steel bars.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said cracks can appear in concrete during hot weather but assured residents these can be repaired.
"Ipapa-check po natin, Sir, para makita po natin ang mga concern nila para maayos po natin," Engr. Lenin Caballo, District Engineer Aide of DPWH Tarlac 1st District Engineering Office, said.
DPWH has started patching the damaged parts, meanwhile the project contractor is yet to release a statement.
