Up to 407 families were displaced after heavy rains caused flooding in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City on Monday, August 25, 2025.

According to the local government, the families affected are from Filinvest, Kalayaan, Ayudahan, and Paraiso Homes. The figure is based on an initial count.

City and barangay officials and personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office responded to move affected families and vehicles submerged in floodwaters to safer areas.

The local government added that flooding in the Filinvest Subdivision caused the collapse of a concrete fence, which directed floodwaters to Ayudahan Drive and nearby areas.

Mayor Khymer Olaso led the rescue efforts and directed the CDRRMO and other agencies to maximize rescue and clearing operations and remain on standby for other eventualities as weather conditions remain unstable, as of this writing.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) also distributed relief good to the families affected.

In a Facebook post, the city government said Olaso emphasized the need to improve drainage systems and provide water pumps in flood-prone areas to help ease the burden of residents.

The city mayor also reportedly added that the city government is exploring possible measures to address the long-standing flooding problem in the affected areas.
