A 60-year-old man was arrested for slaughtering dogs in Barangay Paratong, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.

Authorities received a tip from the Animal Kingdom Foundation that someone in the area was slaughtering and selling dog meat. Upon arrival, the suspect was found cutting a dog, with a pot of cooked dog meat nearby. Two live dogs were also rescued from the scene.

The suspect admitted to killing the dogs and selling the meat to acquaintances, preparing it as dinuguan, adobo, and kilawin.

He reportedly bought each dog for over P1,000, depending on its size.

Barangay officials said they did not condone the illegal activity and initially thought the suspect had stopped because there were no signs of meat being sold in front of his house.

The suspect now faces charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act of 2017 and the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.
