Heavy rain swept across parts of Pangasinan, Baguio City, and La Trinidad, Benguet on Sunday, August 24, 2025, leaving low-lying areas flooded and prompting residents and authorities to take emergency measures.
In Mangaldan, Pangasinan, three hours of heavy rain flooded barangays Banaoang, Buenlag, and Landas. Water from overflowing canals quickly swamped shop fronts and nearby homes in Banaoang.
“Mahirap kasi lalabas kami ng bahay namin, baha na,” Vilma Aquino, a resident, said.
The Mangaldan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) also reported damage in Barangay Salaan, where strong winds snapped tree branches and damaged parts of houses.
“May mga reported tayo na nabali ang mga sanga, nadaganan ang part ng bahay,” Assistant DRRM Officer Ernie Cuison said.
MDRRMO teams continue monitoring waterways in flood-prone areas and urged residents to stay alert.
Meanwhile, in Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet, heavy rain around 3 p.m. lasted about two hours.
Floodwaters rose quickly in some areas, including Kilometer 4 in La Trinidad, where residents placed sandbags to protect their homes.
Low-lying farmland near Strawberry Fields was submerged, damaging newly planted strawberries, lettuce, and cabbage after a nearby river overflowed.
In Sitio Lower Bayabas, Barangay Pico, fast-moving water from higher areas swept down roads and slopes. Authorities reported no injuries from the flooding.
