At least eight students were bitten by a suspected rabid dog in the Municipality of San Lorenzo, Province of Guimaras on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

The eight students of Remedios E. Vilches-San Lorenzo National High School were rushed to the hospital after they were were bitten by a dog inside the campus past 7 a.m. 

According to Myrna Gania, a teacher, the dog first bit a student outside of the campus, or about 100 meters away while walking toward the school.

When the student ran inside the school campus, the dog chased the person and started biting other students.

It was learned from the teacher that there were two persons bitten by the same dog the day prior.

Anti-rabies vaccine was administered immediately to the students. 

As of this writing, the students have been placed under observation.

With the help of personnel from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and San Lorenzo Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the dog was captured.

Gania expressed worry over the increasing number of stray dogs in San Lorenzo that continues to pose risk to members of the community, especially students.
