Several local government units (LGUs) in the Province of Negros Occidental suspended face-to-face classes on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 due to inclement weather conditions.
Classes were suspended in all levels, in both private and public schools, in the Municipalities of Isabela, La Castellana, Cauayan, Candoni, Ilog, Hinigaran, Hinoba-an, Binalbagan; and the Cities of Himamaylan, Sipalay, and Kabankalan.
The Department of Education – Negros Island Region assured that students’ lessons would not be affected by the suspension of in-person classes because of the immediate shift to the Alternative Delivery Mode of learning.
In a video, waist-deep floodwater hit Barangay Binicuil, Kabankalan City. Responders from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office used rescue boats to evacuate residents.
In the Municipality of Ilog, several motorists were caught stranded because of deep floodwaters in Barangay Vista Alegre.
Meanwhile in Sipalay City, a road in Barangay 4 was inundated after a portion of the area eroded. A clearing operation was conducted, as of this writing.
“May na-monitor tayong moderate to heavy rains especially sa southern area. The rest of Negros Occidental as of now is mostly cloudy to light rains lang ang nai-experience,” said Bryll Larry Sañor, assistant head of Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
