Authorities in Mangaldan, Pangasinan carried out another clearing operation morning on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, against ambulant fish vendors selling outside the public market.

The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) said vendors have long been a source of complaints from stallholders inside the wet section, who argue that illegal sellers disrupt business and block walkways.

“Palagi namin silang pinagsasabihan na bawal na talaga iyong magtinda doon sa labas at sa paligid ng tindahan. Dahil iyong nga sa wet section sa fish section ay marami na ho ang nagrereklamo. Kaya’t kami naman ginagampanan namin iyong tungkulin namin,” POSO Chief Gerard de Guzman Ydia said.

Two vendors were caught during the operation but their fish were not confiscated. Instead, they were ordered to render three days of community service as penalty.

Authorities stressed that only the wet section is designated for fish trading.

One of the vendors caught admitted to selling outside due to lack of space inside.

“Talagang wala po akong pwesto sa loob sa itaas. Nakikisingit lang paminsan-minsan. Makiki-awa ako sa mga kakilala ko kung pwedeng magtinda doon,” the vendor said.

Officials said clearing operations will continue to keep the market organized and ensure fair business practices.
