Heavy rain is expected in several provinces as the southwest monsoon continued to affect the country, the state weather bureau said Thursday, August 28, 2025.
According to PAGASA, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, and Negros Occidental may receive 50 to 100 millimeters of rain from Thursday until noon Friday, August 29. From Friday noon until Saturday noon, August 30, heavy rainfall will likely persist in Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.
Meanwhile, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) over the West Philippine Sea developed into Tropical Depression named 'Jacinto,' as of 8 a.m. on Thursday.
The weather bureau warned that rainfall could be stronger in mountainous and elevated areas. Flooding and landslides were also possible in areas already soaked by earlier rains.
Residents and local disaster offices were urged to take precautionary measures to ensure safety. PAGASA regional offices may issue more specific Heavy Rainfall Warnings and Thunderstorm Advisories when needed.
PAGASA also reminded the public of the difference between a Weather Advisory and a Heavy Rainfall Warning.
A Weather Advisory provides a 24-hour outlook at the provincial level, while a Heavy Rainfall Warning is more precise, issued at the municipal level, and valid for the next three hours. Because of this, class suspensions and other urgent decisions should be based on Heavy Rainfall Warnings and not advisories.
Unless conditions change, PAGASA said its next advisory will be released at 5 p.m. Thursday.
