A man who went missing for three days was dug up in Pung-ol Sibugay, an upland barangay of Cebu City on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

His body was dug up in Sitio Lubres, Barangay Pung-ol Sibugay on August 27, 2025, in the vicinity of the game farm where he worked as caretaker.

The victim was identified as Jovanni Asir Bonghanoy, 46 years old, a resident of Sitio Proper Sibugay.

The game farm was owned allegedly by a drug personality who perished in the war on drugs of erstwhile president, Rodrigo Duterte.

Earlier, the Malubog Police Station 12 of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) received information from a barangay tanod (village watchman) of a dead man dug up in the said location.

The Malubog Police led by Captain Kentbel Ceasar Parcon responded and conducted an investigation.

In a follow-up operation, the police gathered information from witnesses that led to the arrest of four out of five suspects.

Of the four, one is a juvenile.

The suspects have been identified as a certain “Alvin,” 18 years old; alias “Juanito,” 20 years old; alias “Jasper,” 20 years old;  and alias “John,” 15 years old.

Alvin, Juanito, and John are found to be from Talibon town, Province of Bohol;  while Jasper is from Barili town, Cebu Province. The fifth suspect, alias “Jonathan,” is reportedly  responsible for slaying Bonghanoy.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy city director for operations and spokesperson of CCPO, said that Jonathan harbored a grudge against the victim for purported conflict in game farm transactions.

In fact, Macatangay said, Jonathan threatened to kill Bonghanoy.

On August 24, 2025, Bonghanoy and the five suspects had a drinking spree.

Police said that the two had a verbal tussle which fueled the stabbing to death of the victim.

The four others assisted Jonathan reportedly in  burying the body.

“Ang suspect is a caretaker, even other suspects that we have identified, dili nani sila POI [persons of interest], suspects na gyud ni sila,” Macatangay said.

Police believe strongly that the incident was premeditated.

“We are looking at the possibility that these event ang kanang pag-inom nila is already premeditated, they were already planning to do this because makita man nato nga ang mga kauban ani nga maong principal suspect nato they volunteered to provide their help in cleaning up of the particular crime,” Macatangay added.

The four suspects did not deny their involvement in the crime.

“Wala sila nag-discuss kung unsay bikil sa duha, what they mention is kato lang nga event nga gainom sila and what happened during that day,” Macatangay also said.

As of posting time, the police are awaiting medico legal result to determine the number of stab wounds that the victim sustained.

Based on further information gathered by the police, Jonathan is still in Cebu.

Murder charges will be filed by CCPO against the suspects.
