Five bus passengers were injured when a Victory Liner bus collided with a dump truck in Gerona, Tarlac afternoon on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

CCTV footage showed the dump truck speeding out of a barangay road in Barangay Magaspac and crossing the southbound lane of the Manila-North Road. The bus, which had the right of way, was unable to avoid the truck and hit its right side.

The impact left five bus passengers wounded. They were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. No one from the dump truck was reported injured.

“Base po doon sa CCTV po natin, talagang right of way yung pong nasa highways natin, yung [bus]. Pagdating po doon sa ano, dimiretso pa din po yung truck dun sa intersection going to Paniqui, north direction naman po siya... umiwas yung [bus] na ma-direct hit yung area po nung driver ng truck,” PLtCol Edilberto Santiago, acting chief of the Gerona Police Station, said.

Police said initial investigation showed the dump truck accelerated suddenly, blocking the bus’s path.

“Dahil sa bigat ng ano. Dahil medyo pababa po yung ano niya, aangat siya tapos pababa ng konti kung going North. Kaya hindi niya na-control yung truck at naidiretso po niya doon habang on-going po yung paparating na Victory Liner,” Santiago added.

Authorities reminded motorists to be extra careful when crossing intersections and to always give way on major roads to prevent accidents.

Investigation into the incident continues, as of this writing, to determine liability.

Those involved in the crash are yet to release a statement.
